The infamous Park Hyatt Tokyo will be closing temporarily starting May 7th, 2024. The hotel will undergo a full refurbishment. The hotel is 30 years old.

Sendai tenderloin

I went for one last lunch at the timeless New York Grill and Bar. It is one of Tokyo’s top steakhouses. The lunch is a luxurious buffet for appetizers and desserts. Diners select a main course.

Buffet

Japanese wagyu beef tops the list but there are also other offerings like pork, seasonal seafood, chicken, pasta, and currently a silky white asparagus velouté with a slow cooked egg and pancetta.

The buffet itself could be a whole meal. The restaurant’s signature Caesar salad, sashimi with sauces, paté, roasted and fresh vegetables, roast beef, and shrimp. Desserts include cheese, cheesecake, tarts, and pastries.

If you can get a reservation before May 7th I highly recommend it. This is also a lovely spot for couples where one person is a vegetarian and the other isn’t.

So much to love about this space. The dramatic high ceilings and the metropolis below. If you don’t come for lunch, consider a cocktail at the New York Bar, also on the 52nd floor.

Looking forward to when the hotel reopens in the autumn of 2025. Hopefully the New York Grill dining space won’t change too much. Wishing the team at the hotel best wishes with all of the hard work ahead. Bottles of wine and all the tableware and kitchenware need to go into storage during the renovation. A big task ahead but this team of professionals is up to the challenge.
