Tara-chan

One of the things I love about Tokyo is that there is never enough time to try all the cool restaurants. So one has to create lists and consider what dishes to try. Unique meals like this one jump to the top. Even better, it opens at 7:00 a.m. and is on my way to Tsukiji Market.☺️

Tara-chan in Ginza serves only one dish. A Korean soup, pugok, made from dried cod, fish cakes, and eggs. Crushed egoma, somewhat like sesame, is a garnish. The meal is rounded out with rice and three types of kimchi. Tara is Japanese for cod fish. It’s also a popular girl’s name. Love this name for a restaurant. The tile matches the curtain!

Tara-chan opens at 7:00 a.m. I spoke to a lovely couple from Hokkaido who dines here when they are in Tokyo. The meal is ¥1,300 ($9). Tickets are sold from a vending machine.

If it looks familiar scenes from the gourmet movie Kodoku no Gurume was filmed here.
