Introducing Schoolhouse Switchboard: Your Hotline for All Things Home

2 days ago 4

What if you could text a friend who just gets home design—who knows the difference between a globe pendant and a drum shade, or what color temperature works best in a hallway? Meet Schoolhouse Switchboard, your new go-to resource for all things lighting, design, renovation, and DIY.

Inspired by Food52’s long-running community hotline—where home cooks can drop a question 24/7 (and even leave a voicemail!)—we’re bringing that same real-time, personalized advice to the world of home design. This time, it’s all happening over at our sister brand, Schoolhouse, and instead of cooking questions, we’re here for your lighting layout conundrums, rug-sizing woes, paint debates, and more.

No phone line this time—but your direct line to help is still wide open. DM us at @shswitchboard or email [email protected]. Whether you’re deep in a DIY or just wondering which fixture finishes pair well with warm-toned wood, we’ve got you.

So, who’s answering your questions?

Meet the Hotline Experts:

Jordan Andrew, Resident Hotline Expert

Jordan has been a creative spirit from the very beginning—designing outfits in coloring books at age three and reinventing her bedroom by twelve. In college, she followed her passion for art and design, exploring career paths that allowed her to turn creativity into a way of life. After years of hands-on experience in residential remodeling, she launched A Creative Approach—a company dedicated to helping people unlock their own creative vision, whether in their home, wardrobe, or brand.

Her love of content creation and community building eventually led her to Schoolhouse, where she’s now the face (and voice!) of the Switchboard. She’s here to make home design feel accessible, inspiring, and—most importantly—fun.

You'll mostly be hearing from Jordan, but there's other experts on-call including Chelsea Harris. As the lead copywriter at Schoolhouse, Chelsea’s always in conversation with designers, craftspeople, and makers, and she’s excited to bring those ideas straight to your inbox and Instagram feed.

In her own words: “I’ve always had a soft spot for DIY—probably because I grew up watching my dad build our house from the ground up (yes, really). Now I’m deep in my own renovation journey, bringing my 1928 fixer-upper back to life and learning everything as I go. I’ve tiled the shower, gutted the kitchen, built custom built-ins—you name it. I love the big, messy projects just as much as the quick, satisfying ones, like refreshing a vintage piece or color-drenching a room. For me, it’s all about making a space feel personal, playful, and totally you (and what better way to do that than by doing it yourself)."

And it’s not just Chelsea and Jordan behind the Switchboard. You’ll hear from folks across the Schoolhouse team—product designers, stylists, brand creatives—who live and breathe all things home. From wallpaper to furniture, bedding to bulbs, we’ve got in-house experts ready to weigh in and share ideas. Plus, we’ll be tapping into our wider network of interior designers and makers to help answer your biggest home questions.
