Shizuoka prefecture is famous for unagi. Sakuraya 桜家 has been serving unagi since 1856. The unajyu is an eel, grilled, and seasoned in a not too sweet soy sauce over a bed of rice. A big difference from the Tokyo sweeter soy sauce.

It’s a popular restaurant, so best to have reservations. We called ahead to make reservations and were advised to arrive by a certain time as they needed to close for an hour to prepare charcoal for dinner service. Luckily we made it in time. Check out the beautiful room. The floor with the wooden logs, the gorgeous light fixtures.

We spent part of the afternoon at Mishima Skywalk. It is Japan’s longest suspension pedestrian bridge at 400 meters.

With glorious views of Fuji san, if the skies are blue. 🤣 We just caught a fading Fuji san as the clouds rolled in. Can you spot it in the photo?
