The fabulous fried chicken set lunch at Kichijōji Shifuku Shokudō. Shokudō are restaurants that offer set meals, often with a few side dishes, rice and miso soup. This fantastic meal included so many vegetables, my kind of comfort meal. Salad, dried daikon pickled with a red daikon with its leaves, daikon simmered until tender, carrots, leeks, kabocha salad, and umami rich turnips grilled in shiro dashi. 1,320 yen ($9). This was the daily special so the fried chicken is not always on the menu.
Shifuku Shokudo also serves three different curries, which also is an enticing meal and many diners were enjoying curry. The area around Shifuku Shokudō is packed with shops for knickknacks, clothes, tableware, and kitchenware. A fun neighborhood to walk around and explore.
Kichijoji is one of the most popular neighborhoods to live in Tokyo on annual rankings. The station has a wonderful mall and north of the station is a busy shōtengai shopping arcade. South of the station is Inokashira Kōen Park which is home to the Ghibli Museum and a zoo.
