Rice Cakes 떡
450 grams garaetteok rice cakes (가래떡)
🌶 Seasoning 양념
½ tablespoon soy sauce (양조간장)
½ tablespoon oyster sauce
½ tablespoon brown sugar (흑설탕)
½ tablespoon fine gochugaru (고운 고춧가루)
1 tablespoon minced garlic (다진마늘)
2 tablespoons hot water (뜨거운 물)
⅛ medium red onion (양파)
🍳 Stir-Fry 볶음
2 tablespoons cooking oil (식용유)
🌿 Garnish 고명
Scallions (쪽파)
Gochugaru (고춧가루)
Sesame seeds (참깨)

👩🍳 How To Make Fried Tteokbokki
1. Prep the Rice Cakes
If using refrigerated or frozen rice cakes, bring to room temperature. No need to soak in water for this recipe.
2. Make the Sauce
In a bowl, mix:
Soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Brown sugar
Gochugaru
Garlic
Hot water
Set aside.
3. Stir-Fry
Preheat frying pan. Add oil in a pan over medium heat. Add rice cakes and onion.
Cook until lightly golden and slightly crispy. You can add the optional Fish Cakes or Bulgogi now and cook for about 1 minute (bulgogi meat doesn't not need to cook fully at this point, since it will continue to cook with the sauce, during next step).
4. Add Sauce
Pour in the sauce and stir continuously.
Let the rice cakes:
Absorb flavor
Slightly caramelize
Develop a glossy coating
5. Finish
Add optional butter for richness (HIGHLY recommended 😄)
Garnish with:
Scallions
Sesame seeds
Extra gochugaru
Serve immediately.
