Shichiken has been brewing sake using the famous water of Hakushu in the Southern Alps of Yamanashi prefecture. Shichiken is just down the street from Koma delicatessen (see previous post).
It’s a big brewery with a sake tasting room, retail shop, and a cafe serving drinks and desserts using amazake and koji. Check out the room to sit and enjoy the fermented foods. Picked up a small bottle to enjoy on the train ride back to Tokyo.
Across the street from Shichiken is a famous confectionery shop called Kinseiken. (next post) The last photo is of the historical street Kyu Koshu Kaido connecting Tokyo to Kyoto.
I highly recommend spending an afternoon in this area. It is about a 20-minute taxi ride from Nagasaka Station on the Chuo line. It is in Yamanashi prefecture, near Kobuchizawa. We stayed in Kofu for a night which I highly recommend.
